Google Maps for Mobile is a cheap GPS (and without additional hardware)

The new version of Google Maps, 2.0.0.11, for mobile phones includes a new feature certainly curious: no need for any additional hardware, displays the position on the map where to find one. When the map is displayed, pressing the "0" (without quotation marks) is shown with a blue dot location. The point can be shown to be accurate if you have a GPS ... But the novelty is that even without a GPS can determine your approxi mate position.

Google Maps uses for this information from telephone stations which are connected to your mobile phone. This will display the location to an accuracy of about 1000 meters all around.
